Outside
Outdoor living is a way of life here in Spain and we hope that you will enjoy the beautiful views, the flowers, the scenery as much as we do. Sipping a Tinto de Verano ( wine of the Summer ) whilst reclining in the soothing jets of the 6 seater Jacuzzi, looking up at the mountains or the clear stars, unpolluted by town light, is an unforgettable experience, not to be missed.
We live on site, next door, but unseen from your accommodation and this year, we have added a Jacuzzi and opened our mandarin grove, other further grounds with two fish ponds and a fountain, to our guests 2 nights per which we hope you will also enjoy.
The ponds are fascinating to watch, brimming with koi and gold fish, many frogs, water hyacinths and water lilies. Many an idle moment has been happily passed, sitting on the garden bench, watching the frogs and fish play. The gardens are filled with bougainvillea, honeysuckle, moonflowers, giant cacti, jasmine and the heady perfume of dame de la noche ( lady of the night ) entices you to walk around in the evening at the end of a hot day , spent sight seeing or sunbathing on the beaches.
In the guest’s private area, the pool with its floodlight will enable you to stay up as long as you like or why not light candles around the pool at night as some of our previous guest have ? There is an out side shower for pool use. There are few neighbours to bother you. From the highest of the three terraces, you can see the bay of the Costas and Torremolinos and in the second week of August, you can even enjoy the night time fireworks of Malaga’s big annual feria or fiesta from the balcony.
There are lovely, mature Mediterranean style gardens to the rear of the houses with a quaint shaded patio area. In front of the villas, is a third sun bathing terrace which is huge and can accommodate many guests for parties, weddings, etc., There is a built in BBQ area with outdoor seating for twelve or more, with a shaded pergola, perfect for long, lazy afternoon dining or midnight suppers. This terrace is normally laid out with comfortable wooden sun beds and tables for our holidaymaking guests to enjoy. There are more gardens to the side of the houses.
There is plenty of space to dry clothes and each house has its own iron and ironing board plus use of our tumble drier, should the need occur in winter.

Location
Finca Fernandez is located on the edge of a small rural Andalucian village, La Alqueria, which is halfway between the small market towns of Alhaurin de la Torre and Alhaurin el Grande, approximately 20mins from the nearest beaches and Malaga International Airport, 45 mins from Marbella and Puerto Banus, 1½ hrs. from Granada and Gibraltar.
The villas are situated between the mountains and the sea, in a beautiful fertile valley , overlooking the mountains of the Sierras de Malaga and the Guadalhorce river Valley. It is an extremely pretty area with fertile orchards, olive plantations, orange and lemon groves and is known as the gardens of the Costa del Sol. In fact, hundreds of years ago, the Moors even named Alhaurin ‘the Garden of Allah’. There are many plant nurseries around La Alqueria because of the unique micro climate. In Springtime, wild flowers abound, filling every space with blood red poppies, wild sweet peas, rare orchids and the smell of wild mountain herbs. The white villages give way to the yacht marinas, long sandy beaches and shops of the coast with long lazy promenades, wonderful fresh fish restaurants and plethora of activities to enjoy.
Our Village
Our traditional village, La Alqueria, which is about 8 mins walk away, boasts no less than three bar/restaurants and even hosts its own little feria in late summer. One of the restaurants, very popular with the locals, serves a speciality from the area, stewed snails or caricoles, which are always in demand and the owner prepares delicious tapas served with chips fried in olive oil and salted before frying. Another owner serves a tasty tapas of pork lomo or fillet, cooked in red butter whilst the third hosts open air BBQs every weekend during summer. There is a small shop and church in the village.
We are 5 mins by car from either town where you will find plenty of bars, nightlife, discos, shops, supermarkets, restaurants, sports complex, indoor swimming pool and so on. A car is essential when booking to stay at Finca Fernandez because of our rural location
